Smokepurpp – Bless Yo Trap

Smokepurpp goes full “Lil Purpp” on “Bless Yo Trap.”

Every once in a while, the game is hit with a harsh reminder that it’s in the middle of a new era, one largely pioneered by an emerging wave of Soundcloud rappers slash Xanax connoisseurs. And while this lost generation stems from all over the U.S., the bulk of the movement seems to be emerging from Florida. Rappers like XXXTENTACION, Ski Mask The Slump God, Wifisfuneral, Lil Pump and Smokepurpp have cause their fair share of controversy, and the latter two have been at the center of much debate. With a proclivity for reckless and no-fucks-given behavior, Lil Pump and his best friend Smokepurpp have caused many fans to wonder about the future of hip-hop.

Still, one thing can’t be denied. Pump and Purpp are getting that paper, and amassing a small army of loyal followers as their bring their bizarre, lean-fueled circus across the country. And while the music may not be to everyone’s preference, behind Smokepurpp’s drugged out persona lies a creative mind, with a solid eye for conceptualization. The album cover of his upcoming Deadstar project reveals at least some degree of self-awareness, and the young rapper has previously described the project as a sonic realization of a drug overdose: “”It’s the sound of euphoria and things that race through your body before you die. This is the sound of the moment when your heart stops and there are those last moments of brain activity.”

Now, Purpp has shared a new Ice Bream produced cut called “Bless Yo Trap.” Clocking in at under two minutes, Purpp flexes, boasts, and challenges over a cold, minimalist instrumental. It’s more aggressive than some of the album’s previous cuts, and the up-tempo vibe makes “Bless Yo Trap” the most accessible Deadstar cut yet. Keep an eye out for Purpp’s full project, dropping on September 22nd.
